Issue 03, February/March 2004
By the time this Issue of our online
magazine is posted Crufts will be
upon us once again.
There will be many varied opinions over
the show. Some people see
it purely as a nonsense, dog's being bred for the ring instead of
the
jobs they were originally intended to do. Others view it as the pinnacle
of the showing year, you can't simply *enter* Crufts, you have
to *qualify*, the creme de la creme of shows and dogs.
No matter what your opinion is, it has
to be the most well known
canine event in the world, drawing entries from many different
countries and having televised coverage on all 4 days.
The atmosphere in the halls is electric.
Beautiful dogs with their
handlers and hundreds of visitors everywhere you look. Whether you
are there to show, shop, learn or simply spectate it is a fantastic
experience
for anyone remotely doggy. But don't forget it's not just showing
dogs
which is in the spotlight, there are many obedience and agility competitions
& displays over the course of the show too.
In this Issue I have written a short
story about my first ever visit to
Crufts in 2002, so I'm probably biased in favour of it. But believe
me it
has to be experienced to be believed.
Good luck to all our members who are
making the trip to show or work
their dogs, best wishes for a lovely day out to everyone who is going
along to ringside or shop and well done to everyone who gives freely
of their time to man the 'Discover Dogs' stands with their dogs. If
you
are going along please don't forget to let us know how you get on,
by posting on the 'Showing' board in the Dogdata forum.
